The American Pitbull Terrier

I'm gonna kick start this blog with one of those breeds that is close to my heart, The American Pitbull Terrier, or Pitbulls for short.

A majestic beast indeed.
You see, i've had dogs for ten years now, started off with a Rottweiler-Sheppard mix, a few more German Sheppards and a Great Dane. Recently i got a Pitbull puppy and she is currently four months old. Its my favourite by far.

Well enough of that, lets get into business.
Pitbulls are one of the most misunderstood breeds in the world and have been the victims of breed specific legislations in many countries like New Zealand and Great Britain.
However, the stigma of pitbulls being vicious dogs are bullshit in my account.

Description of the breed:

The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a medium-sized, solidly built, short haired dog whose early ancestors came from England and Ireland. It is a member of the molosser breed group.

How do they look like:

As puppies:
 As adults:

The American Pit Bull diverges in appearance from the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, having fewer bulldog traits in the face and body. The American Pit Bull is medium sized, having a short coat and smooth well-defined muscle structure, but should never appear bulky or muscle-bound. Its eyes are round to almond shaped, and its ears are small to medium in length and can be natural or cropped. The tail is slightly thick and tapers to a point. The coat is glossy, smooth, short, and slightly stiff and can be any color except merle. The breed ranges from a height of about 14 to 22 in (36 to 56 cm) at shoulders, and weighs between 30 and 78 lb (14 and 35 kg).

Life span:

9 - 12 years

Litter size:

5 - 10 puppies.

There has been many speculations and problems regarding ear cropping in these breed, as you can see, even though it is cropped for my puppy, i would not recommend that.

Here's a video on how a real pitbull should be brought up.

Ill be talking more about his breed very soon, in terms of training and such. This can be considered just as a general overview...
